Steinmetz Minutes of the Cohasset Board of Water Commissioners 339 King Street— Water Treatment Plant Tuesday, April 12, 2016 @ 9:30 am Interconnect Meeting with Aquarion Water & Linden Ponds Members Present: Leonora Jenkins, Chairman Rolf Gjesteby, Vice-Chairman John Steinmetz, Clerk Recording Secretary: Brenda Douglas Guests Present: Joe Geary, John Amonte,Jeff Farrell Lee called the meeting called to order at 9:35 am this was 2nd by Rolf, all in favor. John Amonte informed the board that 105 more units going in to Linden Ponds. They will be breaking ground in October/November of this year. Jeff Farrell of Aquarion reported that they stopped using their Reservoir in October to allow it to refresh. They are working on well redevelopment and a new water line down S. Pleasant Street going in starting on the 181h of April. The existing line is 18" from the 1900's so they are expecting it to increase the rate and flow into the plant. Maintenance to distribution and treatment plant are ongoing. Leak detection is being done now in Hingham, Hull and N. Cohasset. Jeff reported several large leaks were found during the winter. Water meter replacement is ongoing and they are 75%complete. They have done testing of their larger meters. They are working very hard at lost water. The board then asked Jeff about Lead & Copper testing. Jeff informed everyone that they were on an every 3 years testing cycle,but exceeded last year and are back to every year. This was on the copper not the lead that they exceeded. Lee asked what the pH is out of the wells. Jeff said it can be as low as 6. They try to keep it at 6.5-7.0. Jeff said that they have completely changed the processing at the plant. The pH going out now is 7.0-7.3. Jeff reported that they are 80% wells 20%reservoir. The board asked when and if they would be going into water restrictions. Jeff said that they are putting restrictions into place May 1'. John said that the judge made a ruling that she was not going to set a price. She made contingencies on how the numbers for each were derived. Aquarion met with Hingham in January/February to no avail. Aquarion refiled with 95mill and the other was 150 million. Hingham went from 50mill to 46 million. Hingham is requesting another 300K from town meeting to pursue the purchase. They have already spent 1.2 million for lawyers. Next meeting will be will be scheduled for July 12t' @ 9:30 here at the treatment plant. John Amonte cannot attend but will send an update prior to the meeting.
