HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - WREC - 02/22/2016 Weir River Estuary Park Committee (WREPComm) Meeting Minutes from February 22nd, 2016 The meeting, held in the East Hearing Room at Hingham Town Hall (210 Central St.) on Monday February 22nd was called to order by 7:24pm. Members present: Dick Avery (Cohasset), Patti Coyle (Hingham), Scott Plympton (Hull), Judeth Van Hamm (Hull); absent: Faith Burbank(Hingham), Dave Sibor(Hingham). Housekeeping: Members present reviewed and approved the notes from 12/2/2015 and 1/19/2016; one other vote was taken. Patti Coyle volunteered to serve as Scribe. Updates on current activities: a) Cohasset: Dick Avery reports that Cohasset is working on its Master Plan and that the Town's Planning Committee, under new leadership, is showing interest to prepare and publish an Open Space Plan for 2017. b) Hingham:The Committee's Annual Report for 2016 was submitted on February 121". Collapsed culvert at Kilby St, which connects Sidney's Pond to the Weir River: It is common for people to assume that this is the same as the one on Rockland St at the Kilby St intersection. Patti Coyle and Conservation Officer Fournier met on February 171" to discuss plans to apply for a grant from MassBays National Estuary Program next year(2016-2017). Coyle had e- mailed a digital map(from the Hingham Assessors GIS Map available on the Town website)to Town Engineer Roger Fernandes,to let him know we would be asking for repair cost estimates for a potential grant and to also clarify the location. MASSDoT signage: MA Highway plans to relocate 'Weir River' signs at the bridge on Geo. Washington Blvd and also add signs on Rockland St sometime this Spring. c) Hull: Lofchie Property / Straits Pond Waterfowl Viewing Park and Trail: Fund-raising continues. Hull Land Conservation Trust President Scott Plympton went before the Hull Redevelopment Authority (HRA) to explain the current plan for this property, and to see if HRA had any interest to contribute any funds to the project. While the HRA offered no funding at this time, members did suggest that people would be more interested in this project if the public could walk out onto the peninsula. Next steps: a walk on the property, visit Conservation Commission, and meet with Cohasset Conservation Trust Board to get some details in writing. Committee Action Items: Aquarion's Customer Advisory Board meeting(Avery and Coyle) February 29t". Clean-up Day in the Estuary will be either Saturday, April 23rd or Saturday April 30t"; Dick Avery will touch base with the Watershed Associations. Vote: A motion to request that the Hingham Conservation Commission place conforming signage at 60 George Washington Blvd and Sidney's Pond, announcing entry into the Weir River Estuary / Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) was carried; Faith Burbank will send a letter.
