Milliken Field Shed/100 Sohier Street CPC Article Discussion:
We are currently waiting for Soccer Club check to be able to put the project out to bid. Town Meeting
$188,000; Rec Field/Race account $25,000 and anticipated$30,000 from Youth Soccer. Kevin McCarthy
(BOS) and Chris Senior did a walkthrough with the neighbors. The field was lined for soccer and baseball to
show that the present location is the best.
100 Sohier Street: Dan suggested having the town repave the court while paving is being done. Dan will have
his field guy reach out to Ted to rebuild the field. Plans are being looked at for a fence around the sidewalk and
walk way into our office. The fence would keep our 90+preschool children contained with a controlled egress
during pick up. This would also prevent cars parking on the lawn during SSMC shows.
Summer Program Update:
The Recreation Department with the Basketball Boosters ran its first summer basketball league. 74 children
participated and there are requests for more grades next summer. Summer program went very well considering
the extreme drought and heat. Attendance records were handed out. The revised Junior Volunteer program was
successful. Plans for a nurse for the program are in the works. We will work on adding information to the
parent packet for traffic issues for the first few days and add info about our code blue training. Kate reviewed
the massive undertaking of the amount of moving parts and plans are being made to change some programs to
allow for less staff. Tennis program with the addition of Michael Hill was the best we have had in years. Band
Concerts went well and we had our first indoor concert at Willcut.
