HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - SC - 07/25/2018 T CQ%ASSET O Cohasset School Committee Meeting School Committee Minutes Wednesday,July 25, 2018 Cohasset Middle-High School Community Use Room 143 Pond Street Cohasset, MA In Attendance: Jeanne Astino, Chairman Ellen Maher, Vice-Chair Barbara Stefan, Secretary Jennifer Madden, Member Paul Kearney, Member Also in Attendance: Louise Demas, Superintendent Chairman Astino called the meeting to order at 6:47 p.m. Roll Call: Paul Kearney-Present, Barbara Stefan-Present,Jeanne Astino-Present, Ellen Maher-Present,Jennifer Madden-Present. Pledge-Recited. Public Comment-None. Foreign Language Teacher-Visa Discussion—The Committee had a discussion regarding the hiring of a teacher from Spain who can teach both Spanish and French. The teacher will require a visa and the superintendent wanted ensure that the Committee supported this effort. There was a brief discussion of the visa process and the proposed teacher's experience and qualifications. Mrs. Maher made a motion to support moving forward with the hire of the French and Spanish teacher,seconded by Mrs. Astino. The Roll-call vote was 5-0. Facilities Update: The Superintendent provided a brief update on paving work in the district and improvements to the drop-off area at the Middle-High School. School Committee Workshop: Goal Setting: The Superintendent departed the meeting and the School Committee began the workshop portion of the meeting during which School Committee Goals for 2018/19 were to be drafted. The Committee opted to divide the goals into the categories that were based on the five pillars of the District Five Year Strategic Plan. The categories included: Student Achievement; Human Capital; Communication & Collaboration; Finance; and Safety&Security. After brainstorming and discussing ideas, Mrs. Maher was to compile a draft document that she would distribute to the Committee for further discussion. Motion to Adiourn: Mrs. Maher made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 p.m., seconded by Mr. Kearney. The vote was unanimous, 5-0. 1
