Call to Order and Roll Call-Chairman Astino called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Roll Call Vote; Katie
Dugan-Present,Jeanne Astino-Present, Ellen Maher-Present,Amanda Zani-Present.
Public Hearing-FY18 School Budget-Superintendent Demas presented the Executive Summary for the
FY 18 Cohasset Public Schools operating budget.The budget is within the Town Manager's allocation.
John Tuffy discussed some of the details in the proposed budget including contractual salary obligations,
essential staffing and special education. Mrs. Demas discussed the deferred requests and digital
learning. Mrs. Dugan spoke briefly on the net budget, revolving accounts and grants. Chairman Astino
stated the Committee will not vote on the budget tonight. They will put the vote on the budget on the
3/22/17 agenda.
Paul Schubert-155 Sohier Street stated the State budget has not been finalized. Local aid is currently up
by 2% and income tax is quite high indicating the economy is doing well. There should be adequate
funding to get a higher per pupil rate. He will also continue to work on money for the School Resource
Officer.
Motion by Mrs. Maher to close the public hearing,seconded by Mrs.Zani and the vote was
unanimous(5-0).
The public hearing ended at 7:08 p.m.
