HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - OS - 05/30/2017 Open Space &Recreation Committee Lower Level Room -Town Hall Meeting Minutes May 30, 2017 Call to order at 6:40 PM. Attendees: Peter Pescatore, Lisey Good, Katie Holden, Dick Karoff The press release did not get published in the last Mariner but there was a mention of the survey in the Community News Section. Lisey reports that Mary Ford will run the survey press piece in this week's Mariner. Distribution of the survey link to all of the social media networks, that had been identified, was mostly completed the prior week. The committee agreed that after the Mariner piece placement on 6/2 the survey should be closed on Monday 6/5/17. Lisey moved to approve the minutes of the 5/23 meeting and Dick seconded. Voted to approve 4-0. The committee took up the review of the 2009 OSRP and Lisey recommended that we consolidate the sections annotated as town input into lists for the various committees or other resources that have expertise to contribute on the topics identified. Lisey and Katie agreed that they would undertake creation of such lists in their sub-committee. We discussed the new open space being created by acquiring a small peninsula into Straits Pond as a public space and identified the Straits Pond Water Shed Association as a resource to consult on that. The state of the town's Rain Gardens was discussed and we identified maintenance for the rain gardens as an action item for the 2017 plan. A discussion of the make up of the flotsam foam generated by the outflow of the river into the harbor ensued and Jack Buckley's Maritime Group was thought to have studied that. The members agreed to schedule the next meeting for the week of 6/18/17. We ended the plan discussion at section 4.7.6 at 7:45 PM to move upstairs for the BOS Presentation by the committee. The BOS did not end their executive session until 8:30 PM and the committee was able to present with the assistance of Tracey O'Connor running visuals at 8:45 PM. The BOS asked the committee to avail itself of work already done by the Long Range Planning Group, Master Plan Group and other committees to assure consistency with such work. We agreed to do so. All four members in attendance contributed to the discussion and we completed the presentation at 9:40. Motion to adjourn made by Lisey, Dick seconded. Voted to approve 4-0. Respectfully submitted June 20, 2017. Peter Pescatore
