HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - EAB - 05/14/2018 COHASSET ELDER AFFAIRS BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING Willcutt Commons 91 Sohier Street Cohasset, Ma 02025 May 14, 2018 MINUTES In Attendance: Elinore Barrett, Jim Carpenter, Rich Hynes, Paul Kierce, James Mensching, Taffy Nothnagle, Sue Reagan, Beth Tarpey Not in Attendance: Tana Carlson, Elaine Coyne, Diane Karcher, Sarah Livermore Liaisons: Phil Mahoney, Jeff Treanor Also Attending: Coral Grande Paul Kierce called the meeting to order at 8:41 am. Minutes accepted. Treasurer's Report: Elaine is on vacation. At the end of April, we have spent 75% of the budget. Town meeting approved purchase of 2 vans. Also approved the revolving fund up to 100k. Tax credits for seniors were passed by the state. Now town can adopt them. Need to repair brake system on Van 4. Coral will meet with Carl Sestito about purchasing the vans. Awnings - if we bought free standing they would come out of gift account, if they were attached to building would be capital improvement and go through TM. Garden Club - planted long boxes in front of building. Launch will be doing the gardening 3x a week. Treasurer's report accepted. Director's Report: Amy Dilillo will be doing hand/shoulder message during the Mother's Day lunch. We are expecting 65 people. Delores Roy will make beautiful flower vases. Anna will cook a lovely meal. There have been changes in the vehicle inspection costs. $150 to inspect vans. Open Business: Voted unanimously to adopt new bylaws. Next meeting will be the annual meeting. 3 Voting members (Paul, Taffy, and Diane) will renew their seats. 2 Associate members (Sarah, Beth) also will stay on. At the June annual meeting we will vote for officers. On your tax bill there is a box you can check to defray the cost of property tax for seniors. The new finance director said town has instituted a trust account for those taxes. Most people have mortgages that pay their taxes so they never see the bill to check that box. The question becomes how many seniors take advantage of these tax credits. Some town employees go out and visit elders who could qualify based on income. Who is in charge of the vetting, and how can we help? Liaison Reports: Veterans - Phil Mahoney - Memorial Day is coming up. On 5/19, flags and markers will be placed on graves. Medallions were damaged and will be replaced. Healing field will be down by the harbor. 5/25 The Historical Society will hold the 100th anniversary of WW 1. Five Cohasset residents were killed in that war. 5/26 Dedication of the Healing Fields at 1:00. Monday will be the parade (5/28). Police - Jeff Treanor - Patrolman Alex Stotik will attend the Police Academy in Sept. Rudy Helbock is going to the NY Transit Police. And Einstein, the new dog, is in training.
