HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - EAB - 03/12/2018 COHASSET ELDER AFFAIRS BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING Willcutt Commons 91 Sohier Street Cohasset, Ma 02025 March 12, 2018 MINUTES In Attendance: Elinore Barrett, Tana Carlson, Jim Carpenter, Elaine Coyne, Rich Hynes, Diana Karcher, Paul Kierce, Sarah Livermore, James Mensching, Sue Reagan, Beth Tarpey Not in Attendance: Taffy Nothnagle, Liaisons: Helene Lieb, Barbara Stefan, Lisa Uglialoro Also Attending: Coral Grande Paul Kierce called the meeting to order at 8:36 am. Minutes accepted. Treasurer's Report: We are under budget year to date. 61% of budget has been expended. The Formula Grant from the state has not been received yet. There was no activity in the gift accounts. Trust accounts are status quo. Paul will meet with TM about hiring Siobhan part time, which would free up the grant money to schedule more programming later in the day. Tana asked if the grant money was locked into transportation or whether it could be used for personnel and programs. Grant monies can be used for mental health, volunteerism, and outreach. With a start up grant, if you prove success it can then be rolled over to other needs. Helene said Advisory is in support of new position. Also, Paul spoke about transportation and setting up a 10-year plan for entire fleet. Should we lease or buy? We are looking at Ford Transits, 7 passenger vans. Treasurer's report accepted. Director's Report: Health and Wellness Fair will be held on 3/25 St. Patrick's Luncheon will be on the 141h. Volunteer luncheon will be on April 19. Town meeting is April 30. Town elections are on May 121h. CPC grant request for Pergola and moving the bocce court. Swim Center buys a tent and BC Tent Co. services the tent. We are exploring options for the sitting area outside. Coral said that pickle ball is the new rage at senior centers. She is going on Sunday to look at the Scituate Pickle Ball League. In the last storm (1St one), 150 people were here as the warming station charging up and staying warm. It was staffed 12-9 on Saturday and 10-8 on Sunday. Suggested that National Grid come in and give a presentation. Liaison Reports: Cable TV - Jim - meeting on Thursday 3/15 at 10 am. Hope to have all parties together to discuss what to do going forward. Would like to broadcast weekly from Willcutt. TM - Lisa - Vinny Fontaine still here until VSO has coverage all the time. Advisory - Helene - working on 2019 budget. Planning for future is much easier now. School Committee - Barbara Stefan - In budget season, presenting tomorrow. Ford Transit has been very successful for schools. Katie Dugan will not be running for re-election. Will put on our school website seniors shoveling for seniors. We simplified Cohasset Skipper program by just making senior passes. Open Business: Paul - meet with TM about all working together (Friends, SSL TM, and CEA) for our elders. On The Rocks, monthly newsletter is spotlighting The Friends. Looking at policies and procedures. Town of Cohasset bylaws say we vote for chair once a year. Meeting adjourned @ 9:50 am.
