HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - EAB - 12/11/2017 COHASSET ELDER AFFAIRS BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING Willcutt Commons 91 Sohier Street Cohasset, Ma 02025 December 11, 2017 MINUTES In Attendance: Elinore Barrett, Tana Carlson, Jim Carpenter, Elaine Coyne, Rich Hynes, Diana Karcher, Paul Kierce, Sarah Livermore, Taffy Nothnagle Not in Attendance: James Mensching, Sue Reagan, Beth Tarpey Liaisons: Joan Brown, Lisa Uglialoro Also Attending: Coral Grande Paul Kierce called the meeting to order at 8:38 am. Change to October Minutes: Trettis house is the correct spelling. Omit young disabled from the housing authority report - Veterans 1st on list then Cohasset residents. Minutes accepted. Treasurer's Report: We are within Budget year to date. 40% of budget has been expended. We received a $100 donation. Building fund remains same. Coral spoke about purchasing some kind of awnings/pergola for outside sitting. Elaine, Diana, and Coral will look into it. Coral said the town attorney is looking into the Trust funds that presently hold $5600. Counsel asked us to write a plan for use. Counsel said it needs to be used "for intended purpose." Elaine and Sarah will write up a plan. Paul asked Elaine to give us an updated balance of gift accounts for March meeting. Rich Hynes said we don't have control of the $25k broadcasting equipment line item. Cohasset 143 and TM control that. Treasurer's report accepted. Director's Report: Thanksgiving luncheon went well. Thank you to all the volunteers. Diana reported that the 50/50 raffle proceeds went to Abby White, a former Cohasset resident who now runs a school in Calabra, Puerto Rico. $325 was donated and it purchased 33 hours of electricity as well as helping with tuition and food for her students. Veterans' Luncheon was a success. Maria Perroncello passed away 6 days after the event that the Town dedicated the POW/MIA Chair to her husband Louise Smullen also passed away. Her services will be held on January 20th at the 2nd Congregational Church, at 11:00am. Holiday Luncheon at Atlantica went well with 115 people attending. Mary Brennock resurrected Mrs Claus once again... Broad Cove Choral Singers will be here 12/13 Rusty Skippers will be here on 12/19. We will initiate a Wish List in the Vista and a Suggestion box @ the front desk and on the web page. Diana said the Boy Scouts built a "give + take" book box at the bottom of the staircase in the parking lot. We have rearranged the 2nd floor of this building. Classes are being held there. Paul K has donated many many poinsettias to the seniors. Thank you so much, Paul, for your generosity! Will be doing a Spotlight on Volunteers in the coming year. Working on making Sioban Lynch's position permanent, not paid by grant. Starting the budget process. Diana asked if we could have the building open more in the evening. Liaison Reports: Housing Authority - Taffy Nothnagle - Heat and air pumps being installed at 60 Elm. Also contracted to do the kitchens. Will be complete within 2 months. Affordable Housing - Paul Kierce - possibility of 20 or more affordable units being built. Social Service League - Tana Carlson - donated to Cohasset Cares program and Scituate Animal Hospital for care of elders' pets. Donated to the 1st day home program at SSH. SSL is invited to make a presentation to our seniors. Town Management - Lisa Uglialoro - interviewing for open positions. Will be filled in next 2 weeks. BOS would like representation from our board at their meetings. Working on broadcasting meetings from Willcutt. There were many issues the first time broadcasting that need to be addressed. Open Business: Tana said we have to go over bylaws and election of officers next meeting. Meeting adjourned @ 10:06 am. Next meeting date: Monday, January 8, 2018 @ 8:30am.
