HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - EAB - 11/13/2017 COHASSET ELDER AFFAIRS BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING Willcutt Commons 91 Sohier Street Cohasset, Ma 02025 November 13, 2017 MINUTES In Attendance: Elinore Barrett, Tana Carlson, Elaine Coyne, Paul Kierce, James Mensching, Taffy Nothnagle, Jim Carpenter, Beth Tarpey Not in Attendance: Rich Hynes, Diana Karcher, Sarah Livermore, Sue Reagan Liaisons: Kevin McCarthy, Jeff Treanor Also Attending: Coral Grande Paul Kierce called the meeting to order at 8AS am. October, 2017 Minutes accepted. Treasurer's Report: We are within Budget for the 1st quarter. The Formula Grant funds will most likely be received by April, 2018. It will be $475 less than last year because of a reduction in the state budget. Funding for transportation position should be a permanent personnel position. Will discuss with TM. $1400 donated by Pilgrim Bank for the Veterans brunch. Will meet with Capital Budget to request new van. There was a discussion of electric cars and having a charging station here. Treasurer's report accepted. Director's Report: Special Town meeting on December 41h. There are no warrants for Elder Affairs on the agenda. Consolidated Mail Service of Rockland may be our new mailing company. Programs - Lizzy Borden went well. Armchair Theatre was very popular. Halloween was successful, as was the Veterans' Breakfast. Thanksgiving luncheon will be Wednesday the 15th. Rusty Skippers will perform on 12/19. Atlantica Christmas luncheon will be 12/6. We are training on the "Go Live" cable system. Personal evaluations are now done every 2 months. Pool table has been removed to make more room for activities. Mah Jongg players want to play 2 days a week. Veterans' dedication went very well. Coral, Chris Pratt, from the local chapter of the VFW, spoke. Thank you to Jim Mensching for the DD coffee. Suddenly Simple catered. Liaison Reports: Selectman - Kevin McCarthy - Town Hall renovations are on the warrant. Paul asked the question of use of our building during the transition and Kevin said they would not interfere with senior programs. Also said CBC will bond the cost of the building. Housing Authority - Taffy Nothnagle - $5000 SSL granted for remodeling of the community room at 60 Elm. Home for Mentally Disabled Individuals will be built then we will sell Travis house. National Grid donated heat pumps for all units. No units are specifically for Veterans but new legislation states they are 1st on the list; Cohasset residents are 2nd then young disabled. Police - Jeff Treanor - Breast Cancer Awareness month. Donated $500 to Dana Farber. Toys for Tots ramping up for the holidays. Collecting unwrapped new toys. There has been 8-9 bike thefts in the last month. Jim asked if scams against elderly are monitored. Affordable Housing - Paul Kierce - meeting tomorrow and putting together a housing plan.
