HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - EAB - 11/14/2016 COHASSET ELDER AFFAIRS BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING Willcutt Commons 91 Sohier Street Cohasset, Ma 02025 November 14, 2016 MINUTES In Attendance: Paul Kierce, Tana Carlson, Elinore Barrett, Elaine Coyne, Sue Reagan, Jim Carpenter, Diane Karcher, BeBe McCarron, James Mensching, Taffy Nothnagle, Not in Attendance: Rich Hynes, Cindy Swartwood Liaisons: Katie Dugan, Sandra Halverson, Diane Kennedy, Sue Reagan, Chief Silvia, Lisa Uglialoro Also Attending: Coral Grande Paul Kierce called the meeting to order at 8:35 am. October minutes were accepted. Treasurer's Report: It was a typical month. $22,000 spent; received #3,000. Coral said longevity has been paid. Vehicle maintenance still needs to be reconciled. Paper products high because we bought ahead for the holidays. Next month furnishing bill will be paid in full. Treasurer's report accepted. Liaison Reports: SSL - Sandra Halverson - SSL will be putting together Thanksgiving meals as well as Christmas baskets. Sandra and Marita are resigning from the board, effective January, 2017. Chris Murphy will be interim President and Helene Lieb will be new liaison. Many thanks to Sandra for her many years of representing SSL on our board. Affordable Housing - Sue Reagan - Taffy Nothnagle will be the guest speaker at the next meeting. Schools - Katie Dugan - Special Ed. stabilization funding will be an article at the special town meeting. Security task force report has been presented. We are in good shape in the 3 school buildings. More can be done and will be recommended at the special town meeting. Working on Superintendent update. Starting budget process for next year. 4th graders will be coming to the Center this week. TM - Lisa Uglialoro - BOS want to create a training program for new committee members, including responsibilities, handbook, etc. specific for Cohasset. Selectmen - Diane Kennedy - Nov. 28 Special Town meeting will be held. Working on Private Way policy. Fire Chief- Chief Silvia - Cohasset Cares visits up this fall. $1800 of cost funded by grant. Cohasset Cares is made possible by members from Elder Affairs, Town Nurse and Fire Dept. SSES - Ed Mulvey - things are going well. Preparing for new fiscal year. Director's Report: Liturgical Publications contract signed last month. February 1st publication date. Crosswalk has been painted across Sohier St. Received grant for assisted hearing system. Will file for grant next year for visually impaired. Formula grant gives the town $10/hr per senior. It formulates using the 2010 census for a 10 year span. Has been approx. $15,000 now $16,000. Usually receive payout in April/May. Security system was changed over the weekend. New IDs and fob will be starting soon. Approved for the alternative energy vehicles. Paul - 2017-18 will be the year for a new van. The electric vehicle is not to replace but reduce the use of the van. Coral said alternative energy vehicle will be used for medical vans and also for staff transportation needs. TED talks will be starting this month. Once a month. We need leaders to lead discussion after each talk. 45 people attended Safety in the Workplace workshop. Veterans' Breakfast, sponsored by Pilgrim Bank, was attended by approx 80 people. Vietnam Vets were honored at the event. Halloween breakfast went well. Thanksgiving dinner will be here. November 22. Joe and Janet Campbell have graciously offered to cook for us. Diane Karcher is organizing. Nov 29 Decorating party, need volunteers. Chief said to check with John Dockray about fire safety/regulations. Garden club luncheon will be held on 12/12. Open Business: Tana - will be broadcasting our own tv program here soon. Jim met with 143TV. Cost will be minimal. Will meet with Plymouth Senior Center to see their program.
