HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - EAB - 10/17/2016 COHASSET ELDER AFFAIRS BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING Willcutt Commons 91 Sohier Street Cohasset, Ma 02025 October 17, 2016 MINUTES In Attendance: Paul Kierce, Tana Carlson, Elinore Barrett, Elaine Coyne, Sue Reagan, Jim Carpenter, Rich Hynes, Diane Karcher Not in Attendance: BeBe McCarron, James Mensching, Taffy Nothnagle, Cindy Swartwood Liaisons: Jeffrey Treanor, Lisa Uglialoro Also Attending: Coral Grande Paul Kierce called the meeting to order at 8:40 am. September minutes were accepted. Treasurer's Report: General fund is under budget. Waiting to receive the formula grant in January. Revolving fund was $3000 last month. Yoga and exercise programs have brought in $6429 in last 3 months, our 2 largest programs Meals is the 3rd most profitable Paul - has filed 2 warrants: 1 . One of our accounts has been tied up in tax accounts, (money donated to elders through real estate tax donations). As such, the State rules a committee has to be set up to run the fund. Town feels that would be too expensive and would create cost to the town. He wants to change that from an inactive account to an active account and direct it to a gift account that we can then use (approx. $5200). 2. The building fund has excess funds and Paul would like to use that for outdoor furniture. Town Manager has asked us to get quotes. 4 Rocking chairs have been donated. The town has been approved for energy efficient vehicles. Susan Bruce is now looking at all vehicles to determine best ones for the town. The initial cost of charging stations will be covered. Looking at different uses for those vehicles at our center. Treasurer's report accepted.- Liaison Reports: Lisa Uglialoro - TM has contracted with Sestito Landscape to do Spring/Fall clean up. Town maintains the grass cutting. Sand & Salt will be delivered in November. Coral said the Facilities Dept. takes good care of us. Vinnie is physically in the building. Diane - Swim Center is doing repairs after 43 years, making it compliant to Disabilities Law. They are planning on expanding their water aerobics next year. Affordable Housing - TM ran its first meeting and they voted for officers. Diane Danielson will be the Chairperson. A State official explained the 40B law and suggested we look at their website for information. Director's Report: Still in negotiation with Liturgical. Coral wrote grant proposal and received grant for assisted hearing systems to be used here at center. Thanksgiving luncheon has been held at Atlantica for many years. Exploring options this year. Attended Fire & Life Conference. Crosswalk across Sohier will be done when the downtown lines are painting. Transition Committee for Willcutt includes DPW, TM, Lisa, Fire, CEA. Concerned about security of building, managing events, and keeping building safe. New ID cards are being put in place. 143TV is now broadcasting from Willcutt. Work place training session will be held on November 1st at Willcutt. Veterans breakfast will be held on November 7th. Pilgrim Bank will help defray the cost. 65% of Vets in Cohasset are over 60. Colonel Hencke will speak. Swansea and Winnipesaukee trips were very successful. Open Business: Tana - attended workshop training in Scituate. Rich suggested History book clubs or woodworking class for men's programs. Paul still seeking volunteers for garden club. Meeting adjourned @ 10:30 am.
