MINUTES
In attendance: Paul Kierce, Tana Carlson, Elinore Barrett, James Mensching,Taffy
Nothnagle, Elaine Coyne
Also Attending: Nancy LaFauce
Not in Attendance: Kelli Gildea, Diana Karcher, Bebe McCarron, Sue Reagan, Cindy
Swartwood
Liaisons: Joan Brown, Katie Dugan, Sandra Halverson, Diane Kennedy, Ed Mulvey
Paul Kierce, Chairman, opened the meeting at 8:35 am.
Minutes of the December meeting were accepted
Treasurer's Report:
On track at 45%
There was an extra pay period this month.
Paul said the town requested an increase in budget for 2017.
We don't know what our fiscal needs will be in the new building.
$3500 allotted for programs
Vehicle maintenance shouldn't be in our budget
Spoke with TM about user fees - someone at town hall/managers will be present
during off hours
We have obtained the fee schedule from Duxbury for programs, and will use to begin
scheduling/charging programs
Liaison Reports:
Sandra Halverson - Social Service League - P&S signed. Went to AG's office
beginning of December; Christmas and Thanksgiving meals were appreciated
19 Angel baskets were distributed; Safe Harbor next meeting on Wednesday,January 13th.
Ed Mulvey- South Shore Elder Services - SSES - going well.
Legislative breakfast was last week
Senators Toomey and Jehlen filed Bill #359 to protect the health and safety of elders
with hoarding disorders; hoarding was added to the definition of abuse of an elder.
SSES 2017 projected budget is available
Diane Kennedy- Board of Selectmen- Starting process for master plans - for next 7-10
years
Planning board - land use, open space, affordable housing; zoning public meetings will
be scheduled - guided by MAPC
Audit for 2015 will be presented this week
Paul asked if they could have a subcommittee that meets twice a year to keep the
plan in the forefront
Katie Dugan - School Committee - 12/16 meeting for overview of new strategic plan
meeting- for next 3-5 years.
Identified 5 pillars in strategic plan.
Open for participation in focus groups
Will finalize in June.
Paul -Would like to see Elders get together more with the school kids.
4th grade luncheon and band concert are very much welcomed but need more
engagement, maybe volunteer work.
Transportation - any news with SPED?
School has hired a p/t maintenance person for vans.
Ask TM to coordinate meeting with both departments regarding transportation
Diane - should have a discussion with the state about public transportation and The
Ride
Joan Brown - Friends - Sponsored Christmas lunch and Volunteer lunch; purchased
Yoga supplies
Town wide fundraising letter will be sent out in February
Planning projects to help raise money.
There has been an increase in volunteer bakers
Ongoing Business Updates
Paul Kierce - Paul had breakfast with TM on Christmas Eve.
Need to spend monies on tables and chairs; monies already appropriated for that
purpose by town meeting.
Tana - Board vacancy- Taffy has been appointed.Advertising in Mariner for last
couple of weeks.
Director's Report
Nancy LaFauce -new chair yoga added
Trip planned to Symphony Hall in February-wait list
Transportation is an issue for that trip
4 free classes this month
New Strength and Conditioning class
Juice bar offered after class by Anna
St. Valentine's Day Tea
Educational programs in health, strength and nutrition
Matter of Balance program offered in March
Coral will return this week p/t for 4 weeks
Meeting adjourned @ 10:00 am.
