HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - EAB - 07/13/2015 COHASSET ELDER AFFAIRS BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING Willcutt Commons 91 Sohier Street Cohasset, Ma 02025 July 13,2015 MINUTES In attendance: Paul Kierce, Tana Carlson, Elinore Barrett, Bebe McCarron, James Mensching, Sue Reagan, Harry St. Onge,Taffy Northnagle Also Attending: Coral S.Grande,Anna Abbruzzese, Delores Roy, Chris Senior, Diana Karcher Not in Attendance: Elaine Coyne, Kelli Gildea, Cindy Swartwood Liaisons attending: Sandra Halverson, Kevin McCarthy Paul Kierce, Chairman, opened the meeting at 8:35 am. Paul spoke of the passing of Tom Wigmore, and is sending our condolences from the board to his wife and family. There has been an account set up for the Wigmore family at the Pilgrim Bank. Minutes of June, 2014 meeting accepted. Treasurer's Report: Coral reported we were under budget by$9000 but not all items have been entered to date. She has been meeting with Mary Gallagher and budget will be finalized by July 15tn. The rental leases have been removed from our budget and are now in the Facilities' budget. New budget line items include Dues and Subscriptions, Postage, Paper Products, Newsletter, and Office Supplies Report accepted. Liaison Reports: SSL - Paul spoke of Marita's recent health issues and wished her a speedy recovery. Sandra Halverson - No changes in the building process -we are on a monthly lease between town and SSL. SSL will stay firm on their intention to remain in the building in perpetuity. Town Manager Chris Senior said this has a very complicated history with much emotion involved and that town and selectman all want to move forward. The Attorney General and the Supreme Court have to approve this transaction. He is very optimistic. Paul spoke of the history of Elder Affairs in this town. We have been assisting our elders for 30+ years.We have not had sufficient, committed space and have had to offer programs in many different spaces around town for all these years. Town Meeting approved this transaction May 2na, and the expectation is that it will be done. Diana said that elders are the strength of this community, and that people need to feel more confident that their needs will be taken care of. Kevin McCarthy said citizens should call their selectmen and attend Board of Selectmen meetings. Ongoing Business Updates Tana introduced Diana Karcher to the board. She will be joining us as an associate member and will be appointed at the next selectman's meeting. Director's Report Chris Senior held a department head meeting last week. We have added 4 new transportation programs, 5 new health programs and 4 "other" programs. All staff are CPR and AED certified. October 17th is the Veteran's forum. More programs are being offered to Veterans. There are 465 Veterans living in Cohasset, 65% are over 60. Van replacement process will be submitted to TM and it will be included in the Capital Budget. Father's Day cookout, sponsored by the Cohasset Police Association, was well attended. My Senior Center training session for CIRCA members was attended by 47 Councils on Aging. Formula Grant training program held here at Willcutt was attended by 12 COA Directors. New Business Meeting adjourned @ 9:55 am.
