HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - EAB - 06/08/2015 COHASSET ELDER AFFAIRS BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING Willcutt Commons 91 Sohier Street Cohasset, Ma 02025 June 8, 2015 MINUTES In attendance: Paul Kierce, Tana Carlson, Elinore Barrett, Bebe McCarron, James Mensching, Sue Reagan, Harry St. Onge, Cindy Swartwood, Elaine Coyne, Also Attending: Coral S.Grande Not in Attendance: Kelli Gildea, TaffyNothnagle Liaisons: Joan Brown, Sandra Halverson, Ed Mulvey, Chief Bob Silvia,Jeff Trainor Paul Kierce, Chairman, opened the meeting at 8:40 am. Minutes of May, 2014 meeting accepted. Officers for the Board were voted in unanimously: Elinore Barrett- Secretary Elaine Coyne - Treasurer Tana Carlson -Vice Chairwoman Paul Kierce - Chairman Treasurer's Report: Coral said she was working with Mary Gallagher to balance out the 2015 budget. Some line items were under spent- drivers/gas/services rendered - mostly because of the stormy winter. May and June lease will be paid through June 30th. Food expenses spent by the volunteers to prepare meals need to be submitted for reimbursement by June 301h Report accepted. Liaison Reports: SSES - Ed Mulvey- It was a good year financially for SSES, more clients have private insurance and Medicare has allotments for visits. No SSES meeting in July. CPD -Jeff Trainor-looking forward to the Father's Day cookout held on June 17 put on by the police department. Things are running smoothly in the Department with solid leadership. A school resource officer will be added full time -the school dept. will pick up salary. Full evacuation plans have been established for all 3 schools in case of emergency. Coral asked if they could do the same for our new building. SSL - Sandra Halverson - negotiations still going on. Town meeting appropriated monies to purchase, not lease the building. Terms have to be negotiated by 6/30. The Community Center is remodeling its kitchen,which will be closed. There will be nowhere to continue the meals on wheels. It's a difficult time for both clients and staff. How do we explain this process? Ongoing Business Updates Carol St. Pierre sent a list of those members that need to renew their ethics training by the end of June. 6 people applied for 1 spot on the board. Diane Karcher will be invited to join the board. Paul Kierce and Bebe McCarron have been reappointed to the board. Tana, Elinore, Elaine and Coral attended the BOD Training class in Norwell this month. Director's Report Emmet Smarzo will explain the formula grant program on June 25 here at Willcutt TM - COLA raises are 2% for non- exempt, non-union employees. He structured it for managers based on merit and on their anniversary date. Coral has asked the SSL for a list of things that have to be completed at Wilcutt. Maybe they could be donated. The 41h grade visit with the seniors went well. Veterans Appreciation event went well. Mother's Day Tea went well. Coral is interested in starting committees (Education, Steering, Social, etc) to come up with ideas for new programs to be offered at our new center. Siobhan Lynch is invaluable to the department and will be able to continue with us. Christine Johnson of the John MacCormack Grad School @ UMass will be studying our population, who we serve and how we serve them. 38% of Cohasset is 50 or older. Chief Silva said Christine has been a great resource for his department creating valuable data for how we use the ambulance in our town. Received a grant for the My Senior Center training meeting in Bridgewater on 6/22. Need to discuss replacement van, maybe Nissan minivan or Ford Transit. New Business Tana said there would be forms that need to be signed at July meeting. Meeting adjourned @ 10:35 am.
