HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - EAB - 03/09/2015 COHASSET ELDER AFFAIRS BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING South Shore Community Center 3 North Main Street Cohasset, Ma 02025 March 9, 2015 MINUTES In attendance: Paul Kierce, Tana Carlson, Elinore Barrett, Harry St. Onge, Cindy Swartwood, Elaine Coyne,TaffyNothnagle, Liaisons in attendance: Helene Lieb, Kevin McCarthy Also Attending: Coral S.Grande, Director; Paul Shubert, candidate for Selectman Not in Attendance: Kelli Gildea, Bebe McCarron,James Mensching, Sue Reagan Paul Kierce, Chairman, opened the meeting at 8:40am. February meeting cancelled because of storms. Minutes of December, 2014 meeting accepted. Liaison Reports: School Board- (Helene Lieb) - Schools will be starting before Labor Day next school year. Because of storm related damage, the Superintendant and staff are renting space at Willcutt Commons. BOS - (Kevin McCarthy) -the TM facility report for the new Senior Center is complete. Kevin motioned the Board of Selectman to release the review to the public. It can be found on the Town website. Report confirms the data presented by Elder Affairs. The BOS will hold Executive sessions several more times and will meet with SSL to discuss leasing. Discussion ensued as to the use of the facility by the town. Paul Kierce explained the Attorney General's interpretation of the Trust's limitation of the facility's use according to the wishes of the donor, Mary Hooper. Treasurer's Report: Formula Grant was received in January. Revolving fund does not have to be expended by end of the fiscal year. It will be carried over. Vista will continue to come out of gift account until end of fiscal year, unless other arrangements can be made. Town Manager recommended $9600 a year for the VISTA in FY16. His recommendation for next fiscal year has to be approved by town meeting. Report accepted. Director's Report 1. Coral extended her appreciation of her staff to the Board who maintained senior services during her recent absence and who helped keep our seniors safe with their many wellness checks and home visits, during this record-breaking winter storm season. Nancy LaFauce did an exceptional job in her role as the Assistant Director. Elder Affairs also utilized the services of the Launch program,which is administered by Laurel Hickey. 2. Jennifer Sullivan, the interim Board of Health agent, has certified the kitchen at Willcutt Commons for use. Coral, Nancy, Liza, and Richie are all certified in food service management. Richie and Coral are also certified in allergen awareness. Ongoing Business Updates Willcutt Commons - Paul is working with the TM to rent the facility on a per diem basis, hopefully Tuesdays and Thursdays. Town meeting voted for$30k to be used for renting the facility as well as ancillary costs, in this fiscal year ending June 301h. It has been a long and arduous process,which has required much patience. New Business Tana Carlson is working on board development. The Board is looking for recommendations for associate positions.
