Liaisons
South Shore Elder Affairs: Frank Campbell reported. In answer to his question about a new procedure
for obtaining vans, Coral Grande explained the change in procedure (see minutes of May meeting).
Frank said a CEA van is due for title release next year.
. SSES has a revenue surplus which relieves funding worries. Services provided to various agencies
support strong revenues. In addition, expenses have been curtailed. CEA should know in the August-
September timeframe how much money it will receive.
. SSES has concerns as to how the acquisition of South Shore Hospital by Partners Health will affect the
South Shore Visiting Nurses Association.
. Home Care on Call is a 24-hour answering service with structured responses for urgent, immediate
care. The service is supported by On Call of SSES. It is not the same as 911. Coral said she thought CEA
should get involved.
Social Service League: Sandra Halverson reported. The League is continuing its drug program. Interior
work is starting at the new Senior Center. The League was chief sponsor of a luminary event at South
Shore Hospital. Marita Carpenter was an honoree at the event. Only 15 tickets are left for the Frankie
Valle show. Tickets are$125.
Selectmen: Diane Kennedy said persons interested in appointment to the CEA Board should advise the
Town Manager's office (Tracy) in writing. The application form is available online. There was discussion
about the application/selection process. Paul said there should be a standard selection process. He
would like an applicant to attend a Board meeting and announce that he/she is an applicant. Diane said
there should be an online handbook explaining the process. The BOS is open to committees being in
charge of the selection process. Kevin McCarthy noted the selectmen own the appointment process but
not the selection process. Tana asked if a reason is given if an applicant is not selected. Diane said not
at this time. July 1 is the BOS session for 2015 appointments. CEA is on the agenda. Paul will submit
the recommendation form.
