HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - EAB - 12/09/2019 COHASSET ELDER AFFAIRS BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING Willcutt Commons 91 Sohier Street Cohasset, Ma 02025 December 9, 2019 MINUTES In Attendance: Elinore Barrett, Tana Carlson, Jim Carpenter, Elaine Coyne, Rich Hynes, Diana Karcher, Paul Kierce, Sarah Livermore, Jim Murphy, Taffy Nothnagle, Sue Reagan, Beth Tarpey Not in Attendance: Also Attending: Nancy LaFauce Paul Kierce, Chairman called the meeting to order at 8:38 am. November minutes accepted. Treasurer's Report: YTD Expenditures in total are in line with FYE 2020 budget, expending 38%. In October, the Town recorded a Jr. Entry reducing the Mini Grant $1000, so no available balance relating to that grant. In November, the Town recorded the expected Formula Grant receipt of$20,256 in two parts: $15,360 as salary and $4,896 expense. Revolving Fund balance is $31,697. Gift Fund balance is $45,298. The entire balance of$6,856 in the Trust Account will be distributed in December/January to individuals in need of aid chosen by the Trust Committee. Treasurer's Report accepted. Director's Report: Started recently, one of our drivers will park at 60 Elm St. and shuttle anyone who needs to do errands around town. We will start with the 1st Wed of the month and see if there is a need for more. We are waiting for back up cameras to be installed on one of our vans purchased through DPW grant. Due to limited availability by SSL , CEA staff, (Nancy, Diane, Siobhan) delivered 15 Thanksgiving meals provided by the SSL to seniors who were alone on Thanksgiving. Stars in Hingham provided meals. Thanks to Cohasset PSO and the AOL Scout Den who raked and did yard work for 12 seniors this past month. The seniors were very appreciative. Atlantica graciously increased the number of guests for the Christmas Luncheon and served 150 seniors a delicious, festive meal. A very big thank you from CEM Coat drive to benefit Father Bill's is ongoing. Please drop off coats to the box at Willcutt. Rusty Skippers will perform here on 12/17 at 7:30. On January 13th, we will have a presentation on Brain Health here. Amy DiLillo, Yoga Therapist, Clair Haddad, Brain Longevity Specialist, and Dr. Sean Foss, Naturopathic Doctor will share a holistic approach to brain health. There will be a $15 registration fee and all proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer's prevention and research foundation. We are offering Game Night again on 1/14, 4:30-6:30 due to the positive response in November. Student ambassadors from Safe Harbor will play different games with seniors. Pizza included. 359 participants visited us more than 1000 times in November for activities and programs. Volunteers delivered 325 meals to 15 homebound seniors and there were 343 rides to grocery stores, medical appointments and around town for our Cohasset seniors. Liaison Reports: Housing Authority - Taffy - a management agreement has been signed with Norwell, sharing their Director, office and maintenance staff. On Dec 19 @ 1:30 there will be groundbreaking for the new Trettis house. Affordable - Paul & Beth - have drafted an affordable production plan. State will certify plan, which will help town with 40B development. The town has set up a Housing trust with $25k appropriated. Working on applying for a 250K grant. S&S moving forward in their building of housing. SSL - Tana - worked with CEA to support a senior financially. Provided Thanksgiving meals. Veterans - Rich - Can now offer transportation to VA facilities. Legion Riders may be interested in 250 parade. 250 Committee - Diana - January 1st will kick off the celebration for the year at the town common from 1 - 3:30 with figure skaters, DJ, and fun. First Parish Church was the 1st town hall. Rev. Atkinson gave an invocation 50 years ago and his daughter will give that speech at the kick off celebration. Garden Club - Sue - 2019 Yuletide House Tour on Dec. 5 was very successful and very happy to have hosted here. A big thank you. Open Business: Meeting adjourned @ 9:45 am.
