HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - EAB - 09/09/2019 COHASSET ELDER AFFAIRS BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING Willcutt Commons 91 Sohier Street Cohasset, Ma 02025 September 9, 2019 MINUTES In Attendance: Elinore Barrett, Tana Carlson, Jim Carpenter, Elaine Coyne, Rich Hynes, Diana Karcher, Paul Kierce, Sarah Livermore, Taffy Nothnagle, Sue Reagan, Beth Tarpey Not in Attendance: Also Attending: Nancy Lafauce Paul Kierce, Chairman called the meeting to order at 8:38 am. June minutes accepted. Treasurer's Report: FYE 2019 reports are not finalized; final numbers are expected in mid-September. YTD expenditures are in line with our FYE 2020 budget, having expended 15% over the first 2 months. We received a mini grant of$1,000 in August, from MA Rural Transit Assistance Program to retrofit new van to be completed in coming months. Receipts exceeded expenditures by$2,985 in the revolving fund. Sarah talked about the application process for the tax benefits that the Taxation Aid Committee has set up. Accepted. Director's Report. Met with Veterans, Safe Harbor and Library to offer a volunteer fair to anyone interested in volunteering anywhere in town. Nettie and Nancy will present to the BOS tomorrow to request the town join the Age Friendly Network. We are now able to email the Vista. Received $1000 grant to retrofit the vans. Tai Chi videotape was made for people to view in their homes. Received grant from MCOA for non-skid socks. Intro to Islam Adult Learning presentation had 31 participants.We will offer a 7 week class in the spring. Martha Hurtig purchased a display case for which we will showcase memorabilia and keepsakes. We hope to rotate it monthly. End of season cookout 9/19. Shredding day scheduled for 9/30, 10-1 sponsored by Norfolk county DA. Working with Rec Dept. to start Pickle ball if we get approval to put lines on tennis courts at the high school. 299 individuals visited us over 900 times in August participating in 36 programs. Volunteers delivered 334 meals to 16 homebound seniors and 74 riders enjoyed over 400 rides last month Sue Reagan said there will be a special Yuletide offered on 12/5 with a buffet and flower marketplace here $25 for tickets. Code of Conduct will be posted throughout the building. Liaison Reports: Friends - Paul spoke for Karen. Cafe celebrated Mary Edmonds 102 Birthday! Housing Authority- Taffy-working on negotiating a management agreement by November. Launch provided a Luncheon at 60 Elm last Friday. Jill is still on medical leave. Affordable - Paul - the Housing Plan is a part of the Master Plan for the Town. Habitat for Humanity is building a home. There are 25-27 units @ Stop and Shop being built, 20% for low income. SSL - helping to fund the Launch Program Swim Center- Pool closed. 3 year plan. New diving board/lift for disabled.ADA parking and new entry. Solar heat will raise heat of water 10 degrees. Open Business: Tana -we had 3 candidates apply for the 1 associate board position. 1 has withdrawn, and the other 2 have been interviewed by the selectmen. Jim - have been working with Don Roine.We have a number of volunteers to do filming. Meeting adjourned @ 10:13 am. Next meeting date: Monday, October 21, 2019 @ 8:30am.
