HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - EAB - 02/11/2019 COHASSET ELDER AFFAIRS BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING Willcutt Commons 91 Sohier Street Cohasset, Ma 02025 February 11, 2019 MINUTES In Attendance: Elinore Barrett, Tana Carlson, Jim Carpenter, Elaine Coyne, Diana Karcher, Paul Kierce, Taffy Nothnagle, Sue Reagan, Beth Tarpey Not in Attendance: Rich Hynes, Sarah Livermore, James Mensching, Liaisons: Miriam Johnson, HR, Karen Oronte, Jeff Treanor Also Attending: Nancy LaFauce Paul Kierce, Chairman called the meeting to order at 8:38 am. Minutes accepted. Treasurer's Report: 59% of budget expended. Salary accounts a little under but will catch up. No activity in formula grant. In revolving acct receipts exceeded expenditures. $1750 was donated to the gift account. We have not received the vans yet. A document should be written to consolidate trust accounts, to form a committee and disperse accounts. Monies could be used for tax or financial assistance. Policy or procedure should be standardized. Report accepted. Director's Report: Formula grant needs to be used by June 2019. Formula grant will pay for: Annette Nuttle (Netti) who has been hired to assist Nancy with programming that is age friendly and dementia friendly; Launch program donation; and a new display TV monitor for listing programs/activities. In March - medical marijuana benefits talk will be held; Gentle yoga serves 30 people; Yoga Fusion - 13 people; Men's Group - 12 people; and Seniors got strength -12 people twice a week. Liaison Reports: Karen Oronte - Friends - goal is to revamp by-laws. Monies donated to Launch, Food Pantry, Veterans and programming. Paul asked Karen to ask cafe visitors about what they are looking for in housing and affordable housing, to make sure their voices are heard. Jeff Treanor - CPD - 2 new officers, one from Winthrop and one from Scituate. Taffy Nothnagle - Housing Authority - received approval to bid for new construction. Kate Luna, the ED is out on medical leave and Rita Osborne is the temporary Director. Diana Karcher - CPC - The pool is 45 year old, needs an overhaul. Needs to be ADA accessible. Will do a 1St time mailing for support. Paul - Affordable Housing - If Avalon expands, town will make 40B stats. S&S is also building. Also discussing how people are downsizing and looking for land to build smaller communities. Miriam Johnson - HR - recruiting is a big part of HR. Town post openings on website. Town is in the process of finalizing town handbook. 5 people will be interviewed for the Director position. Open Business: Tana discussed scheduling conflict between elderly programs and town business. Nancy said there were a few snafus but communication is getting better. Meeting adjourned @ 10:08 am.
