The purpose of this letter is to communicate the design intent for fire protection relative to renovations of the residence located at 270 Jerusalem Road in Cohasset, MA. Specifically addressed in this letter is my understanding of what is required for fire protection as it related to The Massachusetts State Building Code (780 CMR), specifically Chapter 34 of 780 CMR which references Massachusetts General Law M.G.L.148 § 26G: Automatic sprinkler systems required for buildings and structures totaling more than 7,500 gross square feet. Pending review and direction by the head of the Cohasset Fire Department fire suppression systems / sprinklers may be omitted per exemptions listed in M.G.L. Ch. 148 S. 26G “Building or additions used for residential purposes”. A copy of the text referenced is provided as an appendix to this letter. Per the Building Code and Massachusetts General Law “buildings or additions used for residential purposes” We further provide the following observations specific to the residence referenced above: · The building is a single family residential home classified as R-3. · A new service drive is planned as part of the renovations to the site. Reference proposed site plan LH0.20 dated January 12, 2022 · We observed the existing fire hydrant located on Jerusalem Road, across from the entrance to the proposed service drive. Please contact me directly if more information is required. Sincerely, Ethan Grossman, P.E. Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer License #PE47606 Reference: Attached
